Are the parents registered? If they are and you are planning on registering the baby then you should consider using the pedigree to come up with a name. I have a foal due in May and am looking at four generations for names and I won't be making a final decision until after the baby is born. Once you pick a name you can pick a barn name from that or pick one that fits the baby. For example - my mares name is Come Along With Me, there isn't really any good nicknames (barn names) in that so her original owners called her Rosey.

Congrats and good luck!!

It will be easier for you to name the foal according to it's personality and what it looks like.

Here some examples anyway:
Mystique
Rhapsody
Storm King
Intuition
I've Got Rhythm
Mystical Rose
Desert Rose
Serenity
Love Affair

Go to the website listed below to get some ideas or just type in horse names in your web browser. Sometimes its best to wait until they arrive and name the foal after its disposition or appearance.

Normally if the sire and dam are registered. You pick a name base on theirs.
You don't have to, but it is a suggestion.
Maybe you should name the colt/filly after it's born.
that way you can give it a name to match it's personality or coat color.

you'd have best luck choosing a name after if was born, that was you can see what he/she looks like, its personality. it usually takes me a couple weeks after our foals are born to come up with a name, thats when they start to get personalities and you're around it more. congrats though!
