contenders
portsmouth
blackburn
everton
tottenham
newcastle
bolton
portsmouth is great this season and the last, but definitely not top five.
blackburn is a force this season, but they haven't come very close to 5th place.
everton is the only team out of the contenders to have actually finished above top five.
tottenham has finished 5th the last two seasons but they are playing like sh*t at the moment.
newcastle is really, really powerful with the money, the players, and of course Big Sam. They used to be in the Top Four, and is the only team amongst the contenders to have played champions league football recently
bolton threatened for brief periods in the past to break into the top 5. but really, they are sh*t under sammy lee, so no go.
final
everton
tottenham
newcastle
everton has great players and a great manager, but they haven't reached that stage
tottenham is a serious contender, but not this season folks.
newcastle is the team! They are really scary at the moment with players like viduka, owen and martins. i'd say they might even break into the top four at the expense of liverpool or chelsea

England may never produce players like these again. Natural replacements for Gerrard and Lampard may never be found but young English players will always come through the ranks. You are talking about 2 players who are up there in the best players in the world category. Play with good player, become a better player. Competition for places, makes you work harder to get and keep one. Better players will still shine!

for me its between spurs and newcastle, and ive got to say i think spurs just edge it cause theyve got a good defence (king, dawson, bale, chimbonda) and king and dawson have been injured so im guessing that plus all the managerial speculation hasnt helped get off to the best start this season. Both team have got a great attack though, and if newcastle had a better defence i'd have probably gone for them.
Anyway sorry went off there a bit..... so for me at the moment its SPURS

I think my Team Spurs are the 5th best team & they've shown that the last few years on the pitch & if you look at the squads player for player they should be in the Champions League, but they've lacked experience to kill teams off all to often

Good question.I think it's probably Spurs.they are always the 'bridesmaids'.it's a shame because I like the way they play and they have a core of decent British players.

From recent history.. ie facts , then Spurs and Everton. If you are talking progress and over achieving then Reading and Portsmouth are in with a shout.
