I stayed at mine for 1 1/2 years and it was the worst job I've ever had in my life! Don't just quit because you hate it. Look for a job while you are there and quit once you have another offer. The economy is too bad right now to quit without having something in line first.

Depends what field of study you're in and how abundant the market is. If there is alot of opportunity then 2-3 years will move you up... if the market is stagnant with no real opportunity, you're looking at 5 - 7 years.
I stayed at my first job 3 years.

I worked it part time in college (kinda as an internship) and then when I graduated, I was hired full time...stayed another year, maybe a little more, made me CRAZY tho, so unfullfilling to pay as much as I have been paying on student loans to be the lackey somewhere, thank goodness I found this job!

About 3 months. I always wondered why they say get a college education, you apply for an entry level position, they ask "what experience do you have?".
Why not do away with college, or guarantee a suitable job!

I have an MA; I kept my first job after getting that degree for one year, then quit because I was pregnant. It depends on your field--in some areas it doesn't matter how long you keep a job and in others it does.

I left college in 2005 & have been stuck at a low-paying rental car agency job since 2002.

You should stay as long as you think you are learning something valuable and it will enhance your chance to get a bigger raise when you switch to a new company. I stayed 10 months at my first job.
