How do I add an html banner to my blog entry?

I'm fairly new to blogging, and what I'm trying to do is add an html banner, into the entry section. When I preview my blog, all I see is the html code, and not the actual banner. Hope that makes sense.

If you just hang a MY BLOG out there, it will just appear like you see.
