I love them too.
In the sixties, they empowered a lot of young people, without problems, but still managed to upset an older generation.
The intention was honourable (Peace) and the music was great. It's a shame it lost momentum.
P.S. Lovely question. Thank you.

The actual hippie culture began and ended in San Francisco, aproximately between 1965 and 1969, and was centered in the Haight-Ashbury district of the city.
It was an experimental counter-culture, in generally peaceful rebellion against the beliefs and value-systems of middle-class United States. Sadly, the movement foundered on the rocks of drug addiction, homelessness, venereal disease, increasing acts of violence and a life-style that paid little attention to hygiene and housekeeping.
Any group or bunch of folks calling themselves hippies these days are attempting to emulate that long-gone culture, usually without the idealism or the vision that the hippy movement was founded on. Modern-day "hippies" seem to spend a lot more of their time rudely pan-handling and creating messes than they do creating, or trying to live independently of their home culture.

I haven't seen any "Hippies" in ages. There are still a few throw backs on the Big Island of Hawaii, it is like a time machine, tie dyes and all.

I grew up in the 60s & agreed with their philosophy somewhat. I did not agree with the drugs or free love. I could never figure out why they smoked dope & slept around, etc. & yet preached about a natural way of living & eating to keep your body healthy. Sleeping around spreads disease. They were telling people about poisoning the earth & their bodies with what we were eating, etc. all along. Back then no one listened o that hippie talk. Now it's the "in thing" & these people act like they invented it.
My folks knew a lady who had eczema bad on her arms & in her hair. She went to a "hippie - new age" doctor who told her that if she followed his directions, he would clear it up with no medication. He told her to get rid of all white flour & sugar. Don't eat food with preservatives in them. Get plently of sunshine (move to the beach) & exercise & drink lots of water. She moved her family & followed his directions. It cleared up in 3 months & she has not had any outbreaks since. She is in her 70s now.

Look at it this way, there is good in bad in all society's. Most of the ones I know tend to be hard working, self reliant people and I applaud them for that.

It would depend on what they are doing. If they are infringing on someone else, then yes, there is something to complain about, otherwise people are just being people - biased.

well i guess there are people who complain, cauz they stereotype about them.
(i'm not sure at all, since i'm totally not from those years like the 60s.)
what i do know is i guess, since nowadays people like to copy things from the past, we make things up.
