We should be able to. Maybe we should have a petition to have freedom of speech in Y!A, since it's one of our constitutional rights.

Clearly it has been the predominant assumption of our legal system that, unless there is good cause to treat them otherwise, words are the very thing safeguarded by the First Amendment, whether those words be spoken, sung, broadcast, or printed on a sign, button, handbill, newspaper, magazine, or even the back of a jacket. It was this latter category of message conveyance that was at issue in a 1971 landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, Cohen v. California, involving a young man who had walked through a corridor of the Los Angeles County Courthouse wearing a jacket bearing the words "**** the Draft." Despite a terse, offbeat, and inexplicable dissenting view by Justices Harry Blackmun, Hugo Black, and Chief Justice Warren Burger describing "Cohen's absurd and immature antic" as being "mainly conduct and little speech," the Court majority, in an opinion written by the impeccably conservative Justice John Marshall Harlan, said, "The conviction quite clearly rests upon the asserted offensiveness of the words Cohen used to convey his message to the public. The only 'conduct' which the State sought to punish is the fact of communication. Thus, we deal here with a conviction resting solely upon 'speech.'

Yes, yahoo does have restrictions, as you see, freedom is not free, once a person used harsh languages in my question, and that answer got erased in the next two hours, Besides, I've also undergone such things , I made a fatal mistake in asking a validity code for some program, in the next 2 hours, my whole Yahoo! id got deleted, ( I had 653 points with my old one ) Using freedom extensively is not good, many people are getting arrested for piracy ( they used too much freedom of distribution LOL ) Yahoo does have many restrictions, read the terms and condition.

The concept of freedom of speech applies to public speech, and is not intended to extend to private content. In other words, the government can't make a law saying that newspapers cannot print the word "damn." However, a newspaper can exercise it's editorial right and prohibit any words it wants. Y!A, like a newspaper, is a form operated by a private company, and therefore Yahoo! is free to exercise editorial discretion over the content therein.

I agree with you, to a point. I'm sure I'll get a ton of thumbs down for saying this, BUT-- I do think hate speech should be restricted. Absolutely. We're here for fun, right? It's not fun when you've got people like Chester and Smitty talking about raping, killing and torturing. And the racists-- I think we all know racist hate speech has no place here.

Freedom of Speech only goes a limit distance.
As long as another person's rights are not disrespected
You can say what you want but not to anyone

hi Nancy - i'm in simple terms concentrated on my poetry and keeping out of worry. As to Iano, properly I do have faith he's keeping a low profile on the 2d. He nevertheless calls on my paintings yet he's a lot too busy making a load of dosh to stay around for long. sounds like he's being ignored!

No.
The guidelines are there like traffic lights to keep us moving in the same direction or inspire us to move to a chat room or group room, but; so long as you word yourself constructively you can say a lot before people think "Wow, was that out there?".

There should be. There seems to be alot of conservative Christians here. But I'm with you - content should be whatever we want it to be.
Freedom of speech!!!!
If you dont' like it, stop reading it.
We should not be edited or watched or restricted by any means.
