Do they not see the time? Don't you know most of us have been there for 8 hours on our feet while most of you sat at your comfy desks? Then you get all snotty when you don't get a happy face and good service......think about it ok?

Well, for one thing, you've got to consider that most of a store's customers will be people with spending money who have jobs too and are working the same business hours you do, and most of them can't come in during your regular working hours. Add to that all the stuff they need to do when they get out of work...take the kids to soccer practice, grocery shop, cook dinner, clean up, put kids to bed, and it's no wonder people run perpetually late a lot of the time.

This is not a new thing...back when I was in college, the student health center used to be open until 5pm and the staff got frustrated with all the constant 4:55pm drop-ins because they often would not finish up until 6pm or even later, when they technically were supposed to leave at 5:30.

They solved the problem by changing the closing time of the health center to 4:30pm instead, which left them enough time to deal with last-minute stragglers and still get out more or less on time, most of the time.

So...if you're a store owner who is frustrated, just change your closing time to a half hour earlier. But if you're an employee and it bugs you, I suggest getting another job.

They may have been tied up in traffic. Or may have to make an emergency purchase. Or they may have left work late.

Major department stores lock their doors at closing hour.

This is one of the few things that a small business can offer to the customer that others cannot, or do not offer, even to the extent of getting a higher SP than competitors.

If you can;t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Maybe they are very busy and that is the only time they can get there. If your store cared about its customers they should try staying open a little later.

And I've been to stores and most of the clerks just stand around all day or lean against the counter waiting for the next customer. doesn't seem like a very hard job to me.

They've just come from somewhere and are probably in a rush. I hope that you're one day able to do what I did in the last day of retail service and tell someone to do something not necessarily anatomically possible because it's really the only option as long as you're working retail.

I get your frustration. People do this a lot at restaurants, also. Come in last minute and want to eat and generally the staff has to stay late. People like that are so inconsiderate.

I understand your frustration and dealt with it for several years.
However, they should get the happy face and nice service no matter what because that's what you're being paid to do.

why don't you put up a "closed" sign 20 minutes before your real closing time then.
