I don't mean the normal short form for a sister. I have read it in this page (lesbian, etc.) very often. Does it mean something special? In German you can say also "she is a sister/ Sie ist eine Schwester" Is it a usual word in the scene?

In the fetish scene a sissy is a man how dresses in girly type clothes. They may be male clothes with a feminine touch or very frilly dresses. Some times they are adult versions of young girl's dresses and they are known as sissyboys

In this forum a "Sissy" is a man who dresses up in womens clothes (usually but not always) and likes to be treated as a submissive. Can be gay or straight.

In the straight, non sexual oriented world, a sissy is boy who is afraid to stand up for themselves and let's people take advantage of them.

In the English Language it would seem that a sissy is a word used for a person who is easily scared or one who does not know how to stand up for themselves. In my language (Xhosa) it is spelt differently (sisi) and it is a respectful way of addressing a woman who is a few years older than you. it can also be used it as a term of endearment, for younger or same age female counterparts.

Sissy was a term used for someone that was timided or scared of the dark.or had phobia like a fear of tiny spiders or going under tunnels, it was never meant as a gay reference.

I have noticed when a few of my gay friends enter a room they will address men by saying "Hi Sis" where we would say "Hi Guy". It is a way of expression..
To me any one called Sissy is referred too as a fairy...Not in my league..

Certain gays in the 1980s and prior refered to each other as sisters. Then the term was Mary. Now, I have grown accustomed to using the word "family" to refer to someone who is gay. Mary and sister connotate femininity, of which I we as gays may act like sometimes, but we are men and don't need to be seen as anything less. (not to offend females, but I hate when people say gay men are less of men because we are gay)
