it's for my government class and i'm clueless about how to make it sound professional. i already know what issue i'm concerned about but how do i word it?

Be simple and concise and focus on only one or two issues that are most important to you. If you want to talk about more, write more letters.

Congresspersons love mail.

Don't worry about "professional", just make it polite and to the point. A written letter, one that is clearly from an individual and not some spamming interest group, is far more accepted by our congressmen.

Numbers USA has professionally written letters you can fax, so you could use one of theirs as an example. Usually, their interns reply or send a form letter and are not nearly as articulate.

Google the person's name and that will give you a link to his/her website. They all have one. On the website look under "contact" and it will give you an address and email.

you can just send them an email, that's what we do and you should get a response.
