I have the great Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi-AP Motherboard - Intel P35 Chipset, Socket 775, Crossfire Capability, PCI express, DDR3 @ 1333 MHz out of box, Dual Channel Supported. It is "fututre proof" as it will support todays Intel processors as well as the new 45nm when they release. Its got everything a gamer could ask for. My questions is that the new DDR3 SDRAM is crazy expensive even for only 1 gig. It costs almost as much as the mobo!! It can hold up to 8 gigs of SDRAM DDR3 and overclock to 2032+MHz and still be stable. Crazy huh? If you don't believe me just look it up. All RAM is 240 PIN. Will DDR2 SDRAM 240 PIN work in in the new DDR3 RAM slots?

And how many RAM DIMM's do you need to support dual channel. I'm thinking two, hince the name "Dual Channel". Do you need certain types of RAM. and can you have two sets of Dual Channel?

Oh and if you are looking for a really good, stable, and cool to the touch all the time mobo, this is a number 1, hands down, must have!

Thanks! I knew that they were different technologies and it prolly wouldn't work.

So i guess i have to empty my pockets and count up my change to get a couple gigs of DDR3 RAM, lol. Then it's overclocking time! I'm going to break the record of 2032 MHz. Watch and learn my friends. lol.

NOPE. Same number of pins but different notch and lower voltage settings.

Can't wait to see your OC results. Go go go John! Beat my idol:

I've only seen SDRAM in PC-66/100/133 flavors. I have never seen it any faster. So I'm guessing you have an older PC? All the newer PC's use DDR or DDR2 (even DDR3) memory. Try to find out how many pins the memory slots use. I believe that SDRAM is 168pins and DDR/DDR2 is 240pin. So no you can't use DDR2 in a computer that used SDRAM :)

Well as you have already found out, no not compatible, different key position and different voltages. As for having everything a gamer could ask for, well for $250 I think it would be reasonable to ask for 2 PCI Express x16 slots that actually both ran at 16x, like the 680i based boards have, as opposed to 1 at x16 and the other at x4 like this one has, but thats just me. By the way, if you want both DDR2 and DDR3, take a look at the P5KC. Now you will have to sacrifice eSATA and the Wi-Fi, but you'll also save $100, and still have plenty of overclocking room.

great mobo....but no ddr2...sorry but even overclocked ddr3 2032, has been bench marked to have no significant gains over ...overclocked ddr2, so yes your paying a whole lot for nothing...some day it will, but that day isn't here yet.

yes it take 2, for dual channel and any pair's above that will still operate in dual channel.
