Recently purchased a mobile disk usb 2.0, when I go to tranfer data, it will not allow it and says "disc write protected" How do I overcome this. Very frustrating.

Many usb keys now come in 2 partitions, 1 with the utilities etc on it that is wrte protected and you cannot write to, and a data area.

Check to see if it creates 2 letters in the "My Computer" screen and send to the other drive letter.

You might like to try right clicking > properties and have a look to see if read only is selected.
