Going up and down a one way street is not very smart unless you want to run head on into a vehicle.

I'v had a motorcycle ever since I was big enough to straddle one, i'v also taught motorcycle riding to many kids. going SLOW is the key on a motorcycle, especialy since you aren't sure how soft the clutch is, how the gas will react, etc. So i would say yes, take one day at a time, go slow and look out for cars b/c they often times can't see us little motorcyclists!! Remember ALWAYS wear a helmet and long pants!, and if you fall on your motorcycle don't let it land on you and if it does get out from underneath it as Soon as possible so you don't get burnt! Safety first on motorcycles, and you wont be sorry!!

Sure, but just like anything else you will teach yourself bad habbits unless youlearn from an expert. You can cut the learning cure in less than half with proper direction.

i would recommend the safety course and also asking friends who ride.

Learn to stop; that is the most important skill.
Next is turning and stopping.

Whacking open the throttle is easy so learn the skills that will save your life.

You need a local DMV sponsored training course you could attend. But you need to know how to be safe since many people are killed or injured on motorcycles every minute of the year. For now, the best place to be is off road.

Should only go one way on a one way street. That's lesson 1.

Find the nearest MSF class in your area. Your DMV can tell you when and where they are held.

They supply the motorcycle during the class. And classes are usually three days.
