What are the top 12 things you would put in a gift basket to be given to you at your baby shower?

I am going to a baby shower for a first time mother and I want to know the best things to fill a semi "self-made" gift basket. Please list the things you would like, and possibly not like... it would really help me out.

I would love a combination of things for me and for the baby. Maybe I am a little selfish, but new moms need things too. I loved the lotions and gift certificates that were given to me and they show a little more creativity than just diapers and butt balm.
that being said I think diapers are always a great thing, just check to see what brand mom is using.. cute outfits check with other guests as faras size goes. I mentioned that larger clothes would be good (6-9mo) and that was all I got. Everyone brought clothes she can't wear for a few months. LOL. Think date night for mom and dad after mom feels a little better.what can they use more than a night out?
I would avoid anything like bottles and formula unless you know the mom is going to use it and you know what brand they want. For a breast feeding mom formula may send a wrong signal saying you don't think she can or will nurse her baby.
anything hand made shows effort on your part. I love the little booties and blankets that were made for my baby.
A live plant may also be nice then again maybe not, mom dosn't need something else to take care of. LOL
I hope these ideas help.

I loved getting socks for my baby... you can never have too many socks!! lol...

Also, buy her 0 - 3 months clothes AND 6 - 9... everyone bought me 6 - 9 months and now I have to wait before I can let him wear his cute little outfits.

I enjoyed getting a variety of different baby lotions, so I can test and see which ones works best for my baby. There are popular brands, but some ppl bought me lesser known brands and I must say they're working out great.

Don't buy pacifiers and bottles - she'll get enough of those trust me.

Get her a set of 'my first shoes' or something similar. My grandmother bought me a pair and they're adorable. They're pretty little keepsakes. You can find them at baby stores.

Some of my 'girlfriends' also bought me some lovely bath salts, books for the nursery (I have one called Baby Sanctuary) a 'baby album', some yummy gourmet chocolates and I got a voucher for a beauty day at a salon, which I will use as soon as I've recovered from the c-section. It made me feel a little more special and that everything wasn't just about the baby. Sometimes Mommy wants to feel special too and not 'forgotten'. We forget about mommy when it comes to babies :)

Buy nappies if you know what brand she's gonna use. Nappies are expensive and a welcome gift. Get Pampers if in doubt, they're the best in my opinion.

You can also put a teddy bear/soft toy/a rattle in there...

Just some ideas for you to use... enjoy putting the gift together. I love it - it's great fun!

Absolutely top of the list is a babies r us gift card. I got several of those and they were an absolute godsend.

a baby sling
a boppy
a swing
batteries
diapers
baby wipes
bibs and burp cloths
medicinal/first aid kit

but remember, what works for one mommy might not work for another.
I returned alot of things, even stuff I registered for because I realised that I just wouldnt use them.
really a gift card is the way to go but if you really want to give an actual item - i think the boppy is fantastic,

ps. just wrap the gift in paper, dont give a gift in one of those pretty gift bags - ive ended up with 30 of them that I havent the heart to throw out 'coz they are so cute' and 'just incase I need them'. sigh..

lotions, the johnson's baby wash, massage gel and baby bath (the bedtime kind), diaper rash cream. i don't think baby's need baby oil or baby powder. you can do a "themed" gift basket for bath time, or one for feeding time. the feeding time one could have baby spoons, bowls, rice cereal, baby food, bottles, burp clothes, bibs, etc. or you could just make her a diaper cake and decorate it with the stuff mentioned above.

Absolutely Not! Why do people still listen to these old wive's tales in this day & age? The child will only have hideous features if it was going to anyway. Nothing the mother sees could possibly affect it.
