It would mean the configuration setup of a computer. . . .

Sounds like a homework question.

Wow, an interesting and very broad question.

I will have to answer this in 2 parts (Hardware and Software).

1. A computer configuration can mean which hardware do you want to use when building a machine. And there are plenty of choices out there. The key is making sure that every part you buy will be compatible with each other.

For instance, you would have to make sure to buy the right type of processor for the motherboard you choose. Further more, what options do you want on that motherboard? Will that motherboard have the correct slot for the video card I choose?

There are many other considerations to make, which goes along with configuring hardware. Too many to list; there are plenty of How-To's on the web that can help.

2. Configuring software is needed to make sure that the PC is running efficiently and correctly.

This includes making sure that all the drivers are loaded and working. And that all the drivers are up to date. Sometimes updates to drivers will improve performance significantly.

Also, is the operating system installed correctly? Make sure that the hard drive is formatted with the file system that is recommended for the best performance with the OS you choose.

Another thing to keep in mind is, whether or not the hardware that was chosen will be able to run the software that is needed.

So, this and a lot of other factors are considered in configuring a computer. For more information check out the technology section of a book store for books that deal with PC building. Or check out the web for good tutorials.

A computer configuration is how you have your devices connected to it and how they work with each other.

For example, you might have your desktop set at 640X800 with 24bit color. This is a configuration. You might be using a printer that connects to your computer via a parallel cable or USB.

There are hundreds if not thousands of different computer configurations.
