It even happens to professional comedians. You leave a detail out that sets up the punchline and people don't know how you got there or your delivery is badly paced and fails to surprise. Sometimes the humor is inappropraite for the audience or over the head of some. The worst is when you realize you left something out and have to say "Oh wait" and go back to put it in. It ruins everything. It happens to everyone sooner or later.

No, I usually don't tell jokes because I always screw them up and/or forget the punchline. I tell them to my boyfriend, needless to say, he laughs at me a lot
