It depends on the situation, so what was the situation?
EDITED TO ADD THIS AFTER YOU ADDED ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
So you were in the doctor’s office then. Doctors have a right to set policy in their office as long they aren’t doing anything illegal, and it wasn’t illegal for him to ask you to leave while he examined your husband/discussed your husband's health with him, nor was it necessarily unusual (just to give an example--I’m quite sure my husband’s doctor would not want me in the room if hubby were having a prostate exam). If you don’t like the doctor’s policy, then you have the option of seeing a different doctor.
And by the way, hubby is an adult, not a child, so I’m sure (unless he’s mentally incompetent) he was capable of addressing all concerns regarding his health.

Yeah. Patient doctor confidentiality, even if the patient is your husband. Really, what would you do if you were the doctor, and had to tell a patient that he/she has an STD with the spouse in the room?

Yes. It is not up to the doctor to tell sensitive things to the wife. He might have had to tell the man something that was going to cause a problem. A doctors office is not for domestic disputes. Some of them do this to avoid that. It has happened.

yes if the husband hasn't given permission for her to stay but if the patient says its OK then the doctor should have no problem with her there but this may vary office to office

To me if her husband wants her there, then she has the right to stay. If not, then I still don't see why she really has to leave. This must be some serious topic that the doctor dosen't want her involved in.

The doctor was probably afraid of violating HIPAA laws. There are lots of rules that doctors and medical professionals are bombarded with and to be on the safe side, he/she probably decided that no one can be present while he/she discusses the patient's health.

Yep. If the patient, ie-the husband, does not want her in there, yes. HIPPA rules-doctor/patient confidentiality.
