My computer is a sony VGC-RC110g. I installed 3GB of RAM, plus a Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB graphics card and also a 700 W power supply with 40 amps on a +12Volt

Now i get this screen that says i need to insert boot disk, is it because my BIOS is not updated to support the graphics card just yet? where can i get this boot disk, and does it have to be a floppy?

i dont think it has anything to do with the power supply or the RAM.

please help! i have attached the specs to the original computer

Also, my HDTV doesnt seem to recognise the new graphics card on the usual PC-DVI channel. I need to switch to PC-VGA on my HDTV to get a screen. btw, i have 2 DVI port on my graphics card now, does it have anything to do with it??? thanks

More than likely when working in the PC you have knocked the cables to a hard drive out of position or forgotten to give it a new power cable.

It's trying to find a copy of windows to load and can't see it.

If you can'y get an output on TV from 1 DVI port, try other one, or if it's a 2nd output make sure it's ENABLED in hte properties, and use extended desktop. New VGA card means resetting ALL video setups like that

Can't help you with the HDTV, but it sounds as if your operating system or hard drive has been hosed somehow. I doubt it has anything to do with the new GC at all.

Is your BIOS recognizing the hard drive? If not, you may need to make sure it is plugged into the power supply and the motherboard securely (reseat connections with the power cord unplugged from the back of the machine).

If the BIOS can see the hard drive OK, make sure your boot sequence is correct (usually A, C, D) and there are no disks in the floppy or optical drive that the unit is trying to boot to.

If all of this looks OK, your hard drive may be hosed or the OS corrupted. Some important boot files or even the boot sector may be missing or corrupted. In that case, good luck! I hope you have backed up your important files lately. If you have a repair disk you have made from your OS that should help, otherwise you may need to reload.

And, of course, once done, you will need to load the new video card driver--either with the disk that came with it or download from that manufacturer's website.

P.S.:Why in the world do you need a 700-watt power supply?

The new RAM and the new graphics card may be causing problems (I doubt the error message is asking for a boot disk, read it closely). The graphics card should have an install CD with it. Otherwise use another computer and go to NVidea's website and download the drivers. Try booting into safe mode - press F8 while booting under XP. That will load VGA drivers and should get you to a desktop. You will need to get and install the proper drivers for the video card though. The bios may (but probably does not) require a setting change to reflect the new memory.

For some reason it is not being able to access the hard disk. Check your connections to it (power and data cables).
Another possibility is that somehow you disabled the motherboard device that connects the disk itself (ide or sata ports).
Good luck!
