Domestic honey bees are not very aggressive. they usually go about their business and don't trouble humans unless the humans are threatening them in some way.
The common garden wasp (yellow jacket) is another thing entirely. Unlike honey bees, jellow jackets can sting as often as they feel like it, and as fall begins, they feel like ti often. They become very aggressive in their attempts to gather food.
Maybe they know that they will soon be dead, although that's stretching it considering they have a brain about the size of the head of a pin. More likely it's driven by chemical changes in their bodies caused by the cool weather.
Last year our yard was host to a nest of giant European HornetS. They're about an inch and a half long, and fortunately not aggressive unless provoked. They would fly around our porch light at night and they terrified my wife.

It's been weird this year. I didn't really see any bees all summer, but two weeks ago I found a huge hornet's nest in my backyard under a tree that needs to be cut down. Now I can't go out in my yard because there are bees everywhere. And I'm really allergic to bee stings.
If you got stung, put some windex or lemon juice on it to take the swelling down. And take a benadryl.

They are in an agreesive mode. They are looking for a place to build a hive and for food to store up for the long cold winter.

press a penny over the bite, it will help with the pain, you can even tape it there for a little while that way you don't have to hold it
