We are thinking of getting our 11 year old son a metal detector for Christmas. Does anyone know if this brand is good? We are looking for the $60-100 price range. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I have provided you with a search list of metal detector product reviews to help you decide which is best.

Bounty Hunter makes a good entry level detector for any age. If your son really decides he likes treasure hunting, you will find many different brands and models to choose from, some in the thousands of dollars. Just stay away from the cheap radio shack ones, they are overpriced junk.
Make sure to get one that is "discriminating". It will give him experience with a basic detector setting that is on all better units. Automatic ground balancing is nice but not necessary.
You may want to get him a subscription to a detecting magazine or even find a M.D. club in your area. All this info will be available online or at a hobby shop.

I have both. Garret ace is better. But there isnt much difference between the two. Im a historian and i use the garret ace to search for chunks while researching in the lab
