I made excellent grades in high school and was involved in extracurricular activities but could get barely any money for school. Right now, I can't even afford my books, but I am going to press on and still try. Anyhow, I have seen that many White believe that blacks go to college for free. This is a gross falsification that makes me very depressed. I wish I could get anything for school. I have, however, noticed that more financial aid is given to blacks who go to historically black colleges, which is a terrible thing if you ask me. Many of these colleges are horrific and it almost seems like a way to group as many blacks as possible into these "wannabe" schools that are in no way up to par to other colleges and universities. Anyhow, I just brought this up because I read a question in which someone stated that blacks can go to college for free and it just made me want to cry because I am barely making it and I am stretched so thin, I may snap any day.

It's really sad, for ALL people. I want to finish college but there's no way for me. It's seems everyone in America should be able to get a good education. I wish you luck and hope one day to complete my degree. Good luck. 2D

Keep your head up! You are doing a good thing! College will better you and even though it is hard financially now, you will reap the rewards later in life.

That being said, have you looked for scholarships offered at your school? And have you applied for financial aid? Also, loans are always an option. Most people come out of school with debt from student loans. I don't know where you are located, but I did my loans through Sally Mae.

Best of luck to you! & keep your head up!

Wow! You are truly a disgrace to ANYONE of African American descent. HBCU's are "wanna be" schools"? Are you on crack? FAMU is one of the TOP medical schools in the nation you twit, and was selected as "College of the Year" by Time magazine one year. Not to mention the MANY other HBCU's the excel and spawn successful black people. A very large percentage of the population of successful black people graduated from HBCU's. Sure there are some HBCU's that are ridiculous and barely funded -- such as Edward White and BCC -- but that's the case in ANY type of educational environment. You really need to reevaluate your perspective. Funny thing is, I don't even attend an HBCU, but I take offense to such blatant, imbecilic ridicule. You said so much retarded stuff, that your question is deemed null. Good day!

It's disguised racism. Since straight-out racism is illegal, there are people who find ways to try to downgrade accomplishments made by minorities; saying that blacks and Hispanics got everything easy is a way to say they're less capable. Minorities are always more scrutinized. I'm Hispanic, son of immigrants, and trust me, I did NOT go to college for free. I took out loans, which I had to pay back, and I eventually did, by working honestly. I never received a handout.

I can feel your frustration. You want to get ahead and better yourself without going into lifelong debt doing it. I've been there. It does sound like you don't know about scholarship opportunities available to you. You should go to your financial aid office and check out some bulletins posted.

The most diligent students usually get the money. In my college, it was all the nursing students, those people were like robots. They even got funding for unrelated areas like computers, math and English.

Why the put downs of predominantly black schools? I can understand the frustration with lack of funding for school for minorities, but lambasting worthwhile institutions reflects ignorance to me.

Only ignorant people would answer that way. It's tough. Have tried grants? There are lots of different types of grants or low interst loans out there. Do some research and you might find some help.
