Living above the poverty line is a need.
Want to be RICH is a want.
Today's want might become tomorrow's need as much yesterday's want is my today's need.
Sixty years before my country wanted to be free from British Rule. That was the need of the hour. Today it wants to surpass the British economy in another decade. That too is the need of the hour.

'Need' means "a lack of a requisite, desirable or useful one".It urges a person to fill it and get over the pangs of it.
On the other hand, a 'Want' is a feeling to have the needed.
The need for mother's milk makes the child to cry and get it! Overdose of it, the child does not "want!"

A need is something you really need and a want is something that you dont need but you just want it , because you want it . Always ask your self the question : Is it a want or a need ? You'd be suprise how much money you can pass up just by not spending if you admit to yourself its a want and not a "NEED"

A need is a realisation of a necessity while a want is a desire that may fall short of any necessity or may go beyond it. A need, therefore, is well defined but want may go wild in conspiracy with imagination.

I need food.
I want a 16 ounce ribeye steak, baked potato with sour cream and butter and chives, and some broccoli au gratin, and Texas toast garlic bread, a ceasar salad with ranch dressing, and a cold draft beer.

A need is an essential like 'I need to eat food to stay alive'.. A 'want' is a desire but not necessarily a 'need' so if you said 'I want a huge steak for dinner.' then that is what you wish but really your 'need' is merely for sufficient nourishment of any kind to continue to live.
