It says I have Vista Home Premium, but when I try to go on Word it asks for a product key code. Does this mean i have to pay for and download the upgrade?

I have the ACER Aspire desktop computer with the Vista Home Premium (which is the Operating System). I couldn't find spell check, templates, justify, etc., I found out that I have to buy the other programs:
Microsoft word
Microsoft excel
" Outlook
" Publisher

You would think Bill Gates has enough money already!
He couldn't include at least Word.

Are you trying to work with an Office program that you installed, or the trial version that came with the laptop?

If you are trying out the trial, you will have to register. After the trial period, you will have to buy or most of the features will not work.

If you are trying to work with an older version of Word that you installed, you will need the product key that is usually on a sticker on the envelope which contained the CD.

If you can't find the product key, here are some free keyfinders:

To obtain a new product key for your Office program in the United States, call 1-800-936-5700 and speak to a Microsoft customer service representative. Outside of the United States, call the number that appears in the activation wizard.
When you call Microsoft for a new Office product key, have the following items available for the customer service representative:
The product CD-ROM
The computer on which you want to install Office
The readable parts of your original product key (if available)
The ProductID information in the registry

Some new computers ship with a trial version of the office suite which in order to use after a certain period of time, you must pay Microsoft and they will give you a product key. In this case, it sounds like you may in fact have the office suite pre-installed in which case the cost of the software was included in the purchase price. If that is the case there would likely be a set of discs (probably two discs in a white cardboard sleeve) that came with the computer which would have the key code on it

If you just got it it should say "Enter Key" or "Continiue 60 Day". Click the trial tab and you'll be good for 60 days. It will ask you for the key everytime you use office. Then you will have to get the whole version but if youre a student then good news. Microsoft started a promotion today where students can get a full version for $60
http://www.theultimatesteal.com/home.asp The promotion is real because i just read this on yahoo news.
Oh and P.S. the $60 bucks is for OFFICE ULTIMATE!!!!!

WORD is part of Microsoft Office.
You need a product key for Office (not Vista).

you get carry of a Microsoft workplace trial. you need to use limited effective aspects maximum of circumstances without putting interior the main. The product key on the facet of your computing device is for the computing device, no longer for this technique. this technique is an fullyyt diffrent product. the only element you're able to do is to purchase the product. (homestead and workplace 2007 runs approximately $one hundred fifty). there is no different decision. you're paying for the product. it quite is like getting quite workout kit off an infomercial on a unfastened path. to maintain the product, you need to pay for it. Sorry. solid success.
