The statement on a bag of Nut's, "May contain nut's. Is the most stupid I have come across. Or the warning on a paper cup " Hot liquids scald"

I agree that there are far too many of these sorts of signs, but then I consider myself relatively intelligent and reasonably well educated. I'm not going to sit in the bathtub and use the hair dryer, but there's a warning on there just in case. Remember, for a company to spend thousands of dollars on signs like that for their product, someone most likely did themselves in or injured themselves doing something stupid and the lawyers made a mint off of it, so they have to protect themselves any way they can. But whoever says something is foolproof underestimates the ingenuity of fools (don't know who said that originally, but it fits)

Those stupid warnings are usually the direct result of frivolous lawsuits brought on by stupid people who got injured due to their own lack of common sense. The problem with common sense is that it's not as common as you might think. It's sad, but you know someone tried to use the iron on a shirt while they were wearing it. As far as the notice: Do not commit crime, well that is stupid. It would be far better to say: Commit crime - go to JAIL.

LOL...I always look at some of those warnings as disclaimers for companies avoiding law suits like ""Do not iron clothes on body" -- from packaging on a steam iron". You know that one woman who sued McDonald's because she spilled hot coffee in her lap? Duh! It was coffee, it was hot, and she still won a settlement!!! Now they have to print "caution, contents are hot!" on all their coffee lids. Ridiculous!
