All parents brainwash their kids. They can't help it. As a child you learn from your parents. You believe what they tell you because you naturally trust them and there's no-one else to gainsay them. It's not their fault, they were brainwashed by their parents before them and are just passing on whatever knowledge they've gleaned over the years. It's the luck of the draw whether you are getting correct knowledge from them or a load of codswallop. (probably a bit of both) Once you leave home, broaden your experience of life and start meeting other people you learn different ideas and start making your own choices about what to think and believe. It takes time. Listen to everything (good and bad) and then come to your own conclusions about whatever it is. Don't just take one person's advice as gospel. (Bit like Yahoo Answers)

A really good way of checking out your thought processes is : ask yourself what your different friends or family would do in the given situation, and sometimes if you treat yourself in the scenario as a third person, what advice would you give yourself as if you were advising a friend. If you are really concerned about the way you think it may be a good idea to ask your GP to refer you to your local psychology services for an assessment and this may lead to an appropriate referal for counselling; assertiveness courses; or some cognitive behavioural therapy

Hi Shadow; Take what you can use and discard the rest. You are well on your way to develo***g your own identity. The rule of thumb I go by is: READ, MORALS and obey the rules. Notice how the obey ...... is in small print. Sometimes rules are made to be broken. Keep up the good work. You will be all right.

The first thing you want to do is see a Doctor, then the next thing is to find a place of your own to live, after that, if you haven't got one, find yourself a nice friend to go out will,

what exactly is the problem? brainwashing?
could you be a little more specific...it's hard to know what you are asking. from what you have her i think it comes more down to will power and your saying NO to the voice that won't let you do otherwise.
