SO4 attached to a metal is a compund NaSo4 is sodium sulphate, KSO4 is potassium sulphate

There is no such thing as SO4. The sulfate ion is SO4= and does not itself contain a metal. There are lots iof metal sulfates, such as Na2SO4.

it is a compound but there is no metal in it only sulphur and oxygen
