While the first person is correct about Egypt.. if you are talking about modern times then I would think Ethiopia or Liberia. Ethiopia was so well trained and equipped that the Italians couldn't overthrow them during the age of imperialism.. so they remained an independent nation and Liberia was set up by America as a nation for freed slaves during the era of the slave trade. As such it was never taken over.

I don't think Ethiopia wasn't taken until Mussolini invaded, and it was independent after WW2. There is also Liberia which dates back into the 19th century.

Guess I remembered wrong then.

Above is a good answer- but I know plenty of Egyptians who would not liked to be referred to as Africans- they consider themselves Arabic Middle Easterns.

I would argue Ethiopia- because it seems to have nothing anyone wants.
