i am not saying its wrong to shoot armed robber, but it could have also led to the death of the hostage, when the gun is pointed at his head, when the cops open fire

When a villain is armed, one must assume he is prepared to use the weapon so yes,the police marksman was quite right to open fire....

The police marksman is highly trained and would have had a far more superior response than the armed robber ...
If he had not as responded as quickly and efficiently the hostage situation could have turned into a long saga and the hostages life could have been at risk even further..
The police marksman took a clean shot despite the fact the robber had the gun held to the hostages head ...
I applaud him for his actions

It obviously worked. Who is to say that the armed robber would not have shot the hostage if the police did not open fire.

Unbelievable. Why on earth do policemen have guns. Okay, I know only the armed response unit has guns in the UK, but we all know policemen are stupid, unintelligent genetically challenged freaks who cannot be trusted with a gun. Remember the Brazilian man running for the Tube? There you go. Too trigger happy. God help us if we ever routinely give all them a gun. Personally I wouldn't trust the average copper with a pen.

No - The bullet will kill the robber instantly and he will not be able to fire at his hostage.
Of course the shot has to be very well placed and the victim will need first class after care.

Yeah. Criminals should all be shot as soon as possible. There are lots of people in the world. Who cares if the odd hostage gets wasted?

I do not know the event in question, but I believe the police officier to be right, providing he is a QUALIFIED armed officier and fully trained, which, unfortunately, is often not the case.

I think that all depends on the Marksman. If he can get the shot in and take the robber by surprise then yes.

Human rights activists would say that a negotiator should be brought aboard pronto, others would say to follow the book, etc., etc. My personal opinion is that if you pull a gun on someone it's because you are prepared and dead set on using it.
