Hi. I majored in Computer Science. It was a very tough major, I never could have managed to work and do school at the same time. Now that I graduated, I don't have any work experience. I have never worked anywhere.

Its been 4 months since I graduated and haven't the right job for me. The first month I went on vacation after 5 years of college and no vacations or fun. So really I have only been looking for 3 months.

Here is my situation. My older brothers pay most of the bills at home, but they are now pressuring me to find a job. They think that I haven't found a job because I'm lazy and don't want to work. Sometimes I don't know about that. Maybe they are right. It's just that I get really frustrated when searching for a job, still have a lot of questions to answer in my life, got to put a lot of things in order and do a lot of things. 3 months seemed like a glimpse to me. I've been searching online, but I just can't find the right job soo I have just applied for about 5 jobs...

I mean, I have been searching but have not been applying for a lot because most don't match what I'm qualified for. My brothers ask me every single day to what companies I have applied for,, they want me reporting to them that I have applied to like 5 different places everyday... but I can't because most jobs don't match what I want and are qualified. This gives them the impression that I am actually not looking for a job, but I am. Or I don't know. Is this normal behavior for a recent graduate?

and now they want to me to get some factory job (where even illegal people work with low wage) they say that they don't care if I end up there that it is my fault, that they won't pay the bills anymore. And I feel horrible for this. I don't know what to do.

Any advice on understanding my situation, if I am right acting as I am, what I should change, etc? Thank YOu.

I just wanted advice overall with my situation. Thanks.

And I don't want to end up in the worst job that any illegal immigrant without English can get... That would totally kill my self-esteem. That would kill me, knowing all I had to go through in college only to end up there. I am not aiming for a big job I just want a decent entry level one where I can get some experience in my field.

Don't be so particular. Almost nobody finds the perfect job on the first try. Choosing a career path is a process of elimination. Doing a job you don't like, at least for a while, and then moving on, is a time tested and successful way of eventually finding the job you like. In the meantime., it also puts some experience on your resume.
Right now, take a paying job to get some cash flow going, and at the same time, keep your eyes open for something better. You need the money, experience, and respect that being employed gives you.
You're rationalizing your fear by being a perfectionist. Don't be afraid, did you actually learn anything in school or not? Just do it.

A low self-esteem may be why you're in this situation. You probably don't feel comfortable "selling" yourself to potential employers because you don't feel confident so you find various reasons or excuses not to apply eg. not the right job for me, they don't pay enough etc.

Preparation might help you to feel more confident. Borrow a book from the library about job interviewing techniques. If you're brothers really want you to find a job, get them involved by helping you with practicing interviewing questions and answers.

You can also try going to an employment agency. They often have resources that help with interviewing techniques. Let them know what kind of job you want, and let them search for you.

But you have to do some work towards this. Figure out what kind of job you do want. Target the companies that you want to work for. Some organisations provide a list of best employers either in terms of what they offer to employees or how they treat employees. Get to know the companies inside out so you're comfortable in the job interview. It will impress the interviewer if you know a lot about the company you're applying to.

If it is to gain some experience you want, then you may not want to be too picky with the job description. Some jobs may not be ideal but they are a foot in the door and the only way is up.

Good luck with your job search. I hope you find a job soon.

The bottom line is that school is over and you are an adult. Most people, unless you are wealthy and apparently you are not, have to work for a living.
I understand that you've been in school, struggled and now you are going out immediately into the work field. But that's just life; that's what we all have to do.
Personally, I think it is more unfair to your brother than to you.
Very few people find the "perfect," job. Very few lucky people even have a job they like. I hate mine, every body I know hates theirs, but it pays the bills. You are also extremely lucky if you find a job befitting to your education, financial needs, ideal etc..., Especially without job experience, even with your degree you are going to have to start at the bottom and work up. So you might as well get started. If you take a job that is "beneath," you or that you don't like just to pay the bills, keep looking and applying for something better.

Oh to be YOU, you have so many choices. Firstly maybe you need to move to another place, I mean Seattle Washington right now is looking for JUST NEW GRADUATES IN COMPUTER SCIENCES, who said you have to stay home? What I did was go to a "Job Shop", paid the first weeks salary, (the company actually ended up paying for it) let them do the hunting, the job market is a tricky place. Have a professional do your resume, surely you have had projects and long assignments in school, you have probably worked on theories etc., that needs to be addressed in a resume. Frankly if I had it to do all over again, I would join the JOB CORPS. but just because I am an empathetic human being.
'YOU'VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING, SITTIN ON A RAIN, GOT THE RAINBOW AT YOUR FINGERTIP" bye bye, good luck you lucky dog you......

To get work experience and to get your brothers OFF your back go and VOLENTEER to do work experience FOR FREE at a place that you would LIKE to work.

Tell them you have chosen them for these reasons and you want to get a FEEL for what it is to work for a RESPECTED company such as theirs etc. Do a TWO WEEK deal with them. You will work for free for two weeks if they will give you a chance to get a foot in the door. This can go in your favour in many areas. It shows that you are KEEN. If they really like you and are impressed with what they see, they may keep you in mind for future openings.

Three months is not a long time, but if your brothers are calling the shots, then it looks like your time is RUNNING OUT. So, better to calm the waters than rock the boat.

When you get a job you may be able to get a place of your own and not be under their rule.

Good luck
PS. My beloved started work on a one month contract to fill in while someone was on holidays. He is still there ten years on, no formal qualification and 98% of what he does, he learned ON THE JOB. It can be done, if you have the right ATTITUDE.

Well personally, i want to help my parents once i graduate, but if your having trouble with work experience, thn start from the bottom. Get any job you can for now, and then when you think you have enough work experience to get a better job, move on. Your not always going to start from where you want. Anyway, dont let the pressure of your brothers get to you, just think of helping out a bit. If you want to get anywhere in life, thn get going, cuz you dont have forever^^
Well good luck and hope you find what your looking for.
