Why is it important to position the sample tube next to the thermormeter bulb in the Thiele tube when getting a boiling point?

In order to ensure that the temperature at the sample is as close as possible to the temperature of the bulb. In the Thiele tube, you heat the "elbow," which heats the oil and causes a convection current of hotter and hotter oil through the main chamber. However, this means that there is oil of all different temperatures in various parts of the vessel. The temperature you read is the temperature of the bulb.
