2gb ram, 8500 Graphics card 512mb, 3.0 intel pentium 4 processor intagrated. windows XP

it was running on a 1.8 intel pentium, 1 gb ram, 128mb graphics card.

all i did was transfer the hard drive. that was the only old thing i brought to the new comp.

what steps should i take to fix this problem? could it be the hard drive at all? the programs on the hard drive? the PC parts?

It might be due to the old HDD.

As you have mentioned your old PC Spef. the HDD is a PATA Technology, means it uses a PATA cable. see that you are using a 40 pin cable instead of 80 pin cable which reduces the transfer rate from 100/133 mbps to 33/66 mbps.
The RPM is also slow (i.e-5400 RPM).If it creates sound which is not a good sign.

i would recomend to get anewer technology HDD, i.e- a SATA-II HDD, shich have the transfer rate of 1.5 gb/second to 3.0 gb/second and have an RPM of 7200/ 10000.

It will solve your prob.

Before you do a fuill reinstallation of Windows, take the CD form the motherboard in new PC, and RUN IT, use the installer on that to install ALL the drivers for the motherboard stuff, IDE, USB, and other integrated peripherals, this will enable the system to run at it's best.

I suspect the system is running on "generic" drivers so it will function, but not nearly as well as it should.

use that CD, that is why they give it to you.
