...it seems like they put down political candidates that have great ideas and support those that have none...why do they attack the character of potential great men in support of the rich people in this country that could care or less about the average hard working man and woman?

They have strayed off the path for a long time now. We viewers are to blame, because we would rather be entertained then to be given the facts and have to decide for ourselves. So the Media is now doing our thinking for us. They promote candidates that bring controversy, controversy sells. I believe all news outlets have lost objectivity.

One person's "great idea" is another one's "doozie".
I'm just saying, what you consider to be one or the other may be exactly the opposite to someone else.
Another point to consider is that the media isn't always concerned with the average working man/woman.

You raise a good point.
Both the government and the viewing demands of the masses control the media. But since people demand sensationalized, shocking, manufactured stories, the government ultimately controls the media's formula more than viewers do.
If we all boycotted government-influenced sensationalism and disaster-capitalism, we would effectively remove all government control over our flow of information.

Can you give examples? I really don't remember hearing the character of a candidate attacked by any legitimate news source. Pundits and "political commentators" are a different story though.

the media is a business and the mantra is "if it bleeds it leads."
scandal, tragedy, violence, and death are what sells. just business.
