Defamation of character is slander, libel, willfully, maliciously causing harm to a person's reputation by lying, cheating, spreading rumors or false facts.

defamation is base on truth but flourished quite a bit with malice intent to destroy another reputation Slander is false allegations with the intent to destroy another persons reputation.
