I am not sure how to draw here on Yahoo so I will give you a word picture.

Take 7 carbon molecules (with each having 4 locations for bonding). Put them together in a 7-carbon-long chain. (One of the carbon's atoms forms a covalent bond with one from the adjacent carbon so that is what holds it together.) Now put a hydrogen onto each of the unused carbon locations. The two end ones get 3 of the hydrogens so that is 6 H there. The 5 interior carbons each get 2 of the hydrogens so that is 10 more H attached.

The result is C7H16 (where those numbers should be subscripts).

"6,6-dimethyl-3-heptane" is not a valid name for a molecule - do you mean "6,6-dimethyl-3-heptene"? If so, it is: C - C (CH3)2 - C - C = C - C - C (the carbon backbone - add the hydrogens in. Heptane does not have a number prefix since it is unambiguous. The 6,6 dimethyl is the two methyl groups on the 6th carbon atom of the backbone. The 3 would be an alkene or other group at the third carbon, always counting from the same end) edit: yahoo answers is being super retarded so I can't draw the molecule properly. Hope you can understand it.
