My initial thought is that the hotel is using some sort of proxy service that isn't getting configured properly for your connection. The hotel desk should be able to provide more insight into debugging the problem.
It could also be a problem on their end where their wireless network is active but their link to their ISP is not (i.e. their wireless router can't get an IP from their ISP).
Other items to check:
- Do you have a proxy server configured while connected to your work network? If so, you may need to switch to a "direct connect" as the hotel network won't know what your proxy server is.
- Can anyone else in the hotel connect? I've stayed at hotels before where they advertised that they had Internet only to find that they stopped offering that service because they didn't find enough people using it. Note, this wasn't for my business travel, mainly when visiting the in-laws. Just having a strong network signal doesn't necessarily mean you have an "Internet" connection.

normally this would be a DNS issue.
You can have excellent signal but without proper DNS settings within the tcp/ip settings you will not be able to browse.
However, if this is happening to you in a hotel.. you may need to go through their service and pay for the connection before you can browse the internet. Call the concierge and ask them for the proper wi-fi settings.

If the hotels are anything like some libraries. You might have to agree to their terms of service and use. But, that would be something that the hotel has to deal with. Its possible that you're connected locally only.

I have the same problem but...
the boring way is to repair the connection and plug out the power to the router and plug it back in...
the easy way is to deactivate and wait 10-20 sec and activate the connection, if it not is connected in 10-20 sec try it again

It could be a number of things. At work, do you connect thru a proxy? If so, you will need to change that setting to connect at the hotel. It may be a firewall issue as well.

create a new connection , go to start , then control panel , then go to Internet connection , then create a new connection . You'll need the net # and pass to do it , but if you don't have it you can call your web service to get it . in fact they'll walk you through it .

Try adjusting your browser and/or security settings. It could also be that your employer limits sites you can visit. I know my employer prohibits msn, hotmail addresses for e-mail,and auction sites. You could try logging into your bank and see if that works.
