Women are fortunate since your urethra is only 2-3 inches long. The doc will put some lidocaine gel on the scope to numb you and maybe even a little IV drugs if your really worked up about this.

well mine hurt like the dickens. I'm a male and I'm sure the drug they use to numb the penis didn't work and it really , really hurts and couldn't wait until it was over. After the doc pulls the scope out your bladder rains big time and the nurse doesn't prepare you for the amount of water/urine and it gets all over. They leave and you are stuck getting dressed with this volume of water draining and it gets your underwear soaked along with your pants. The bathroom was up the hall, so by the time you reach the toilet you are soaked. It is something that you can hold back until you get to the toilet. They should have had a basin or something to let you drain the excess water/urine in before getting dressed. I was so embarrest driving home with wet underwear and pants.

I have a had a couple. It is uncomfortable but not really painful. You are uncomfortable for the rest of the day - I would not return to work etc. until the next day.
