I've heard many reasons from the libs stating why the war is not making us safer but none to me are valid. No more attacks after 9/11 in our soil is enough to know that Bush is doing the right thing.
First of all, all these al-queda members and insurgents from different factions were there before the war (Middle East). Eventually at one point they were going to wake up no matter what.
Bush has been tough on these people, by going out there and catching or killing most of them including high ranking individuals. The war on terrorism is not just against Al-queda, it's on every terrorist. Extreme Sunnis, Shiites, and Kerds are also terrorists, so don't give me that we're not doing anything in Iraq.
Iran and Syria are the other two countries that should be next. These countries are a threat to us in every way. I do believe in talking to them but in the past we've all learned that talking to these people doesn't work and doesn't get things done.
War on terrorism is the future, reality

yup. I agree. But many people will disagree with you here. Im a US Marine, active duty, and I am redeploying in January for my 2nd tour in Iraq. Ive had 2 tours in Afghanistan prior to this as well. The war is definitely keeping them at bay, or at least making them constantly watch their back. With 40 Marines at your back door, its very hard to plan a major attack that can kill a lot of people. Iran should not be attacked yet. They are just too powerful for us right now. If we attacked we would be hurting big time, unless we pulled many troops from Afghanistan. Once the ins. are pushed from Iraq, they will no doubt go to Syria, the home place for the worst ins. in the world. That is, where I believe the next World War will take place. And when we win, Bush will be praised...Although that will not happen for many, many years, long after I retire.
God Bless.
Pray for me and my Brothers in Arms.
EDIT: GILLIEGRRRL: you are way wrong. Petraeus corrected his answer, he stuttered when he was asked, and then he went back and said that 'yes' he believes it has. Get the whole information instead of getting your news from The Daily Show. Iraqi Govt did not have anything to do with 9/11, true, BUT people within Iraq did. Iraq was a haven for terrorist pre-9/11 and even during the Afghan war. Once again. Get your facts straight. And before you blame big bad Bush, just remember that the people that told Bush to go to Iraq included your beloved liberals too. The report was actually BIPARTISAN. (that means both sides).
EDIT: ANOLDMICK: dont you dare insult military personnel. thanks to people like me and my brothers, you can sit here and complain about us. Grow a pair and come join me on the front...then you'll see the truth.
EDIT: RKO:
Have you ever listened to yourself.?.....9/11 perpetrated by our own government? Good lord man, get a life. Sure, its fun to imagine little conspiracy theories in your moms basement, but the facts are clear. The facts are apparently what you guys want to hear, but they are true. Just because 'fire can never melt steel' doesnt mean a building cannot be brought down by fire. The steel doesnt have to melt, just bend enough to give way...think a little bit. And if you think you got the guts to try and spread your little 'love and compassion" theory, go give an insurgent a hug....or maybe try and stick a flower in his AK-47 as he points it at your head....easier said than done. I would LOVE to see you call a Marine a coward in public, private, anywhere, as long as you are face to face. The are things that he will do to you that you never knew were possible....Don't threaten Marines. I have heard many people say things about military personnel, but never heard them called a coward. I would like to see you in Iraq/Afghanistan one time, and maybe you can spread a little more "love and compassion" through your half witted insults. Way to be hypocritical.
EDIT: Fairly Smart:
apparently you are not. Every middle eastern country has hated us since we came over from England. It has something to do with a little thing called the Crusades, where we ("Christians") slaughtered those guys as they were trying to spread their Islamic ways. They hated us with Clinton in office, they hated us with Roosevelt in office, they hated us with friggin Truman in office....Come on...use your brain, the facts are right there in front of you. If you want to blame someone for the Iraqi Invasion, then go look in the mirror, and go look at your beloved Democratic Presidential candidates....THEY ALL WANTED TO INVADE! According to the report that was GIVEN to Bush, it was the best scenario. We were pushing Insurgents OUT OF Afghanistan and INTO Iraq. Iraq was only happy to allow it, due to their Radical Based Government. That government is now dissolved and so is their acceptance and willingness to allow insurgents to use their home as a base of terrorist operations, hence the shameful Iraqi Police. (They are really bad fighters) IF WE PULLED OUT OF IRAQ WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN? Iran would be more than willing to take over, AS THEY HAVE ALREADY THREATENED!

I wouldn't say it's ironic per say, more like an unforeseen circumstance.If the US declared a 'war on terror' but ended up becoming a safe haven for terrorism/Islamic fascism, then that would be a case of situational irony. Another case of irony would be if, during the Cold War, the US itself became a socialist/communist nation. Now onto the real question. I still feel our nation's liberty is still intact and protected. Some things which are used to protect are necessary, but others we do not need (such as spy drones in the US, check points, special papers, and wiretapping). Liberty shall never die in our hearts, mind, and nation.

Just because there have been no attacks, doesn't mean they aren't gearing up for one! And, the war has NOTHING to do with 9/11 anyway! They were mostly Arabs & Bin Laden is still out there somewhere. When will people stop & pay attention to that fact! Iraq has it's own problems, but they have nothing to do with that attacks that happened here 6 years ago. They may be in the future because of what
"bring-it-on-Bush" has been doing the past 6 years. Now, every Mid Eastern country wants to destroy us!

It's not just the 'libs' who are saying this insane war is not making us safer; plenty of the 'cons' agree that this 'war' is
immoral and unjustified.
Just because there have been no more attacks since 9-11 doesn't mean Bush is doing the right thing. There are any number of reasons:
a) Perhaps the 9-11 attack was perpetrated by our own government, as substantial and credible evidence seems to acknowledge;
b) It takes a lot of time, money and resources to plan such a devastating 'attack' - years, in fact, to acquire all the necessary elements, assemble enough people, initiate a workable plan, and execute things to successful precision;
c) Just as millions of Americans joined the military during World War II, millions have joined AlQaeda since the Bush administration has attacked Iraq for no justifiable reason.
With such expansion, it's probable that AlQaeda is simply biding its time and waiting for the 'right' opportunity with which to utilize its new-found mass of militants;
d) AlQaeda could be in the process of building its own nuclear weapons of mass destruction with which to combat America's nuclear weaponry.
War does not make anyone 'safer'.
War does not bring peace.
Hate begets hate.
Bigotry begets bigotry.
War begets war.
Guns don't kill people....only cowards kill people.
As the Dali Lama said in a recent magazine* interview:
"The use of the power of the gun is a sign of weakness."
The only reason we're being threatened is because of our own bullying. American comprises only 5% of the global population, yet squanders 55% of the world's resources.
As arrogance, avarice, corruption, and hubris has set in, the rest of the world has grown to hate us. Instead of using guns, we should try using love and compassion - try learning to share with the rest of the world instead of taking whatever we want just because it's in our 'national interests'.
For an insightful perspective on the "other fight for Iraq's oil", read this month's "Hightower Lowdown"**.

The answer lies in understanding who these nutcases are that say that. To get a clearer picture, just look at the Code Pink people whom the Democrats invited into the Petreus hearing for dramatic effect and how they were allowed to behave. These persons' elevators are not going to the top floor. They are all one brick shy of a full load.

If you like the war so much, put your money where your mouth is and join the military.
Even General Petreaus admitted that he has no idea if the Iraq war has made us safer. And don't forget, Iraq had no involvement in any terrorist attacks on US soil.
EDIT:
Yes, Einstein, "liberals" did support the war because they were lied to by Bush and his cronies, and were cynically given "intelligence" that was later proven to be false by the administration.
And, no matter how you slice it, IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11. You can repeat as long as you want that it did, but that won't change the FACTS. We invaded a nation ruled by a despot we had formerly supported and supplied that had NOTHING to do with 9/11. Period.

So why aren't you in uniform, carrying a rifle and humping a pack in the desert? I notice that you right-wing fanatics never rush to put on the uniform or to sacrifice in the least in order to fight this "war". You're all real brave just so long as someone else does the fighting and the dying.

The democrat response to Petraeus' withdrawal anouncement sums them all up nicely. Seems to me they actually wanted to hear something like this as recently as Monday!!!
I guess they're all bipolar. Wherever the administration stands, they're vehemently against it....even if they supported the idea just last week!!!
ps to anold...why aren't you swimming around the north pole to make a point re global warming? same reason.

Sorry but you cannot talk sense with a liberal unless it involves civil rights or religious freedom. Trying to get them to understand war issues is like trying to get a pro wrestling fan to understand that it's not actually real fighting and real drama.
