I want to drop out of highschool, im currently 17 and live in the IL state. I cannot get accepted into any college, I have literally sent over 200 letters and every single college rejected me along with local community colleges (which were 3 of them). I have been told that dropping out is the best plan by everyone including my counsler. Now im wondering what age you have to be in order to drop out?
I want age no sob stories or anyone saying anything other than the age.

In many places you are already old enough to leave school, as in many jurisdictions you can drop out at 16. At most, you would have to wait until you are 18. If your counselor has advised you to drop out, he/she should also be able to tell you the age.
Can I ask how close you are to graduating? If you stayed until the end of this school year, would you graduate? If so, think about whether maybe that might be the best option. What are you going to do it you drop out? Do you have a job lined up?

Why would any college accept you if you can't finish something as easy as high school? Colleges don't waste their time with students who are going to quit! Unless they are a bad college and just want your money. why is dropping out the "best plan." If I were you i would keep my record clean and just get along with my classmates and teachers and finish. Try an early graduate program, it worked great for me. Your counsler should probably be fired for laziness. Also a GED is not worth the ink required to print it. But to answer your question, I believe 17 is the age where you can drop out. 16 with a parents consent. Your counselor knows this information.

You're leaving something out.
High school counselors do not just tell people to drop out of high school. Are you on your third attempt of 12th grade?
Community colleges do not reject anyone. You can get into a community college with a GED. Do you have a half dozen felony convictions or something?
There are other options besides college (like trade schools) but nothing is available until you at least have a GED. You need to finish high school if you don't want 'Walmart greeter' to be your long term career path.

They're trying to just get rid or you, and if you're 17 and applying to colleges you're almost done so you really should stick it through.
The age, I don't know about IL but if I remember correctly in Cali it was 16 with parents permission 18 without, IL may be similar. If your advisor is so keen on you dropping out, ask him how you can get your GED and get gone. At least get a GED. Why were they rejecting you? Why on earth did you fill out 200+ applications?

In most states you only have to be 16 to drop out of high school.
I know you don't want sob stories, but can I at least tell you, I think your guidance counselor is terrible at doing his/her job!

Wait until you graduate! If you're going to go find work, they will want someone with at least a high school diploma.
Try finding other community colleges. College would be the best choice fore anyone, but if you can't make it, stay in high school!

I believe SK. effectual dropouts like bill gates & mark zuckerberg knew the place they are going & knew a thank you to get there and additionally that they don't could graduate. yet once you think of in simple terms considering you dropout you will grow to succeed, it incredibly is stupid

Do you have a GED?
If you don't that's why you couldn't get accepted anywhere.
If you do, MAYBE those colleges want you to be 18 first, so it would be easier for you to get financial aid. Even though that seems silly to me.

Your counselor should not be persuading you to drop out. If he / she is doing that then they are not a very good counselor.
