The first and third are really the best. The first had the better combat system, but the third almost fixed it.

Xenosaga is a VERY mature themed game, not in terms of sex, but deffiently of violence, HEAVY religious themes, and several mentions of sucide. The third game also has quite a bit of cinimatic blood, but most of it was censored out of the US version.

The game is heavily invovled with both speaking and cinematic parts. In the first 2~3 hours of gameplay of the game, you will control the characters for about 30 minutes.

It is a traditional turned based RPG, with a very convulted plot. There are a limited number of sidequests, some of which are easily missable. There is also no replay factor, since you will see all the game plot on the first play thought and there are too few secrets to play for the game again for.

That being said, I enjoyed them and have played through all three. My brother, however, gave up after barely starting the first game; he liked the orignal game, Xenogears, and hated how Xenosaga changed the combat system.

The Xenosaga series is heavily based on Jewish and Christian religion. It's a good game for it's kind, but the storyline is very complex and convoluted. You can't really coast throught the game or else halfway through you'll be completely confused about what is going on.

There are three bad things about the series. One: it is very linear; there are very few sidequests.

Two: It is VERY longwinded. There is over 8 hours of cinematics and conversation and the boss fights can take over a half hour to complete.

Three: There are some parts in the game where the translation can get a little crappy.

Overall: It is pretty good, but not particuarly mindblowing.
