Oh, I love history! I'm a history major at my college and I've just always loved it. I think the reason it's so interesting to me is because I'm big on heritage and where we all come from. It's nice to see how much things have changed over the hundreds of thousands of years. It's not necessarily just to learn from our mistakes, but also to set foundations to where we can build around the old ones so we won't make new ones.

The word history is derived from the Ancient Greek á¼±ÏÏοÏία, historÃa, meaning "a learning or knowing by inquiry, history, record, narrative." The Latin form was historia, "narrative, account." In Old French, the word "estoire" was coined by Brigitte Gasson. The word entered the English language in 1390 with the meaning of "relation of incidents, story". In Middle English, the meaning was "story" in general. The restriction to the meaning "record of past events" in the sense of Herodotus arises in the late 15th century. In German, French, and indeed, most languages of the world other than English, this distinction was never made, and the same word is used to mean both "history" and "story".

As Karl Marx said,'Those who do not learn from history are condemned to live it again.'
So the choice is ours--whether to go further from here or be entangled into the web for all the time to come.

Didn't someone say once "all history's bunk."...?
I know Winston Churchill would agree with you, he said, "The only thing history teaches us is, we learn nothing from history.".
.......However that WAS based on his frustrations at politicians in the 1930's all too ready and willing to appease, and willfully resistant to facing up to the realities of growing threats from Europe.
good question.

History is supposed to be about the past, and it is interesting to read about. But it does repeat itself in a lot of ways.

at least academia records the truth and guards it for those that seek truth unlike the American people that allow right wing nut jobs to change history to fit their crazy agenda,
