My first answer would be bleach...but I had a teenage boy...so there is no "getting socks really white". My advice is buy new ones when the old ones get too dingy to wear.

Put a denture cleaning tablet in the wash, there is a small amount of bleach in it, which will keep your socks white but not damage your machine.

No....don't use bleach! Get some Oxi-clean, make up the solution as recommended, and leave the items in soak for about an hour (have the water as hot as possible) Then wash them as normal. You can even put a measure of Oxi-clean in with your normal washing powder to give it an extra boost.

You use bleach when you wash them OR just buy new socks every once in a while!

I'm a mom of four kids, so I would suggest that you pre-soak them in the washer with bleach for a half-hour or so, I then wash them twice...once with the bleach only and next with detergent...

Wash them in hot water and add borax or Oxy-Clean in the laundry. Don't use chlorine bleach either, it would ruin the fibers.
