Who is saddened and appalled that in recent polls as many as 1/3 of the Americans polled still think that Iraq and Saddam were behind the 9/11 attacks?
No matter how quick Truth is, it can never seem to catch up to a Lie.

9/11 and Iraq are separate issues. It just shows how uninformed the general public is in this country.

It only goes to show how efficient the Bush propaganda machine has been. This administration has gotten away with lying, misrepresenting the truth, like no other president before, and they're still cheering it on. Never before has any administration showed so little concern for the opinions of the people it was supposed to serve.
And yet, a sizable portion of the population still don't seem to be able to see how profoundly dishonest the whole exercise has been. Bush, by the way, when pressured by journalists, admitted 9/11 and Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with one another. Yet in all speeches leading up to the war, he didn't miss a single occasion to put the two in the same paragraph.

As Josef Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister opined: If someone of authority tells a big enough lie enough times it wil eventually become fact in the minds of the populous. When the lie is finally uncovered as such it is essential those uncovering the lie be discredited or eliminated.

Strategically it doesn't matter. I don't care if 33% of the population thinks Donald Duck was responsible for the terrorists attacks . . . what does it change? 9/11 still happened . . . we are still at war . . . we still have the same big mess no matter what they believe . . .

Not nearly as appaled as the eight percent of us who think our government flew the planes into the WTC and Pentagon.

But in the context of Iraq providing training grounds in their vast deserts to al qaeda, and subsequent safe havens, I believe it's entirely possible. unless you personally know for a fact that it is an absolute impossiblity, beyond any shadow of a doubt, totally impossible, improbable. I don't think you could take that stance.

If you're refering to education, it's sad that Americans tend to believe whatever the current headline is, but Saddam is not innocent, either.

Not appalled but angered. Not in so much for the people believing the spin but in the system that created it.

How can anybody be that ignorant still ? It's unbelievable. I'm appalled. I'm disgusted. I'm infuriated at their ignorance.
