"Mackies is a family owned resturant that reflects the importance of family connections, community spirit, and good food." i am writing a paper for my freshman college english class. I am writing about a family owned resturant and want to talk about the food, how is brings family closer, and how it orginated and the activities we participate within the community.

It sounds very well written to me. It states the main idea of your paper quite succinctly.

I'm thinking not. This is an advertising line and not a thesis statement. A good thesis statement would make some statement that can be argued. The counter statement to yours would be "... reflects the unimportance of family connections, community disconcern, and bad food." Nobody would really make that counter argument so you're stating the obvious.

What you're wanting to talk about here is called a 'business bio' and while useful to learn to write may not make a good academic paper topic if you have to be able to make a point and then defend it. Be certain that you're writing to the standard of the assignment and not writing simply what you want to write and trying to make it fit the assignment.

You might consider something like "Strong community involvement helps to build a strong restaurant business..." or "Family run businesses can help to build closer families..." and then use your experiences in the writing.

Unless the purpose of the paper is to market your business, be careful to stay away from selling your business in an academic paper. Save that for marketing class.
