Hey guys,

I had an incandescent light bulb break on me today. Is there anything dangerous (chemicals, materials) that could injure me? Also, there were little pieces of brown material (solid) near the fixture of the bulb. What are those?

Also, is there mercury in an incandescent light bulb?

Nothing harmful except the glass. brown thing could be rust. CFL's have a small amount of mercury but not enough to be really harmful. My Electric Cooperative states not to touch broken CFL's with bare hands. Sweep (not vacuum) the glass up and dispose of in a closed container.

Only the glass itself, if it cuts you...and the element (the brown stuff) if it is still hot.

Other than that...
