While out this lunchtime, I saw a poster for a new car which read something like, "…the feisty new car from Renault…" This lead me to question what makes a car feisty? I can understand that soft curves may confer a 'sexy' label and bold/rounded lines on a car can make it look 'mean/ muscley', but which trait(s) makes any car 'feisty'? Does a person's personality say anything about the car they choose to drive? or vice-versa? By describing a car as feisty, are the makers influencing the way people should drive? Naturally, if I owned an Aston Martin, I'd like to feel like James Bond behind the wheel. If I owned a Nissan Micra or one of those electric 'eco-buggy' thingys, I'd probably feel like Noddy.

So, in short… Do you feel that your car says anything about your personality? If so, what?

I have a '66 classic Karmann Ghia. I think "feisty" is a good descriptor. It is not an expensive car, so in spite of its sporty frame and stance, I don't think it qualifies as "sexy" It is a '66 with an efficient engine, so it could hardly be "mean" or "muscular." It is fun to drive and as a bright yellow connie, I'd have to say it is "spirited." The defining element that makes it feisty is its very unusual nature. I live in "Mustang" country, so standing up to the trend and not going with the classic muscle car here is feisty.

Feisty - as defined: having or showing a lively aggressiveness.

My car, a WRX, definitely exudes 'feistiness' - some words, and this is from others who I've let drive, is fun, fast, nimble, quick, sporty, assertive, enterprising, energetic, bold, confident, unapologetic. (Yes, come of my friends come across as a walking thesaurus - but the point is the car gives that feeling)

So, in the whole "psychology of cars" scheme of things, I do think cars reflect personality, to a point, and - as demonstrated by my friends - can affect the way you drive. Many of these folks are not 'aggressive' drivers by any stretch of the imagination, but when they drove my car, well they were a bit more vigorous in their driving.

And then there's that whole "compensating" discussion I won't go into.

A fiesty car, to me, would be a little car with a little engine that still wanted to go fast. I suppose a feisty person would want a feisty car, but I don't think that was the point of the ad.

Of course cars say something about your personality - otherwise we'd all be driving small, eco-friendly machines. As to my presumptions:

Small, unimpressive cars with paint jobs, spoilers and those huge bore exhausts reads: I live with my parents and spend all my money on trying to make my Corsa look cool.

Vectras: either a salesman or someone REALLY dull

Cheap convertibles (Ford Ka etc): "Have you been on your holidays yet? Would you like conditioner?"

BMW: I have money, but no imagination - ditto Golf GTi

And don't get me started on anything in a silly colour....or old guys in Mini Coopers...

Damn...I'm more judgmental than I thought...better not tell you what I drive!
