As a trucker myself,I can certainly agree with your better half.If you really think about it,look around your house right now....everything you own, everything you use, everything you eat, (unless you are Daniel Boone and only hunt and grow your own food) was on a truck at some point or you wouldn't have it. SOME people only point out the bad truckers and the accidents they are involved in,well yes there are a lot of bad apples,However, most of us are safety conscious, hard working, honest people and are very proud of the work we do.
Additional: Oh by the way, since you mentioned tampons, the very first load I delivered with my co-driver/trainer in 1982 was a truck load of tampons to Tampa.Always remembered THAT one.

I have immense respect for anyone who has this job, plus, they have this cool culture and honour amongst them. They need to be very focused on the road, and their schedule is as gruelling and high pressure as any pilot's, even more so, since there is no high traffic in the air, and there are a lot of bad drivers on the road. My best friend was working as a trucker as well. He was the most level headed calm person I have ever met, how he did those night shifts I will never know. Here's to all the truckers out there,
Drive safe, be well!

My dad was a trucker, my sister-in-law was a trucker. I have a soft spot for truckers. I've seen nimrods on the highways block a trucker who's trying to move over to an exit. I work my way over and block the morons behind me so the trucker can move over himself.
When I have a flat bed come in and the driver has to roll up his tarp, I always give him a hand. Once when I was in the Navy, we had an American Van Lines truck pull up with barracks lockers. I gave the driver a seat, pointed out the sweet rolls and coffee and told him to kick on back. When my troops were done, I gave him the paper work and he walked out onto the dock. One of my guys was sweeping out his truck, and 2 of my ladies were folding his furniture blankets. He was VERY surprised. I told him it's just one of OUR services for truckers.
Remember, if YOU can't see the driver in HIS mirrors, HE can't see YOU in them either. Don't drive too close to his tail or alongside him. If you're passing a truck, get by him quickly because if he has to make a move toward your lane, you're goose is cooked.

There are a great many good truckers doing what it takes to keep this Country running smoothly. And there are some cranks truck drivers who think they own the road and movin thousands of pounds of raw metal carelessly in fear of no one, like a bat out of hell..Those kind of so-called truckers need to get a job driving a Taxi Cab..

truckers provide us many great services as every thing comes in a truck. and they put up with a lot of greif from other drivers and are gone from home as much as most soldiers. all of that plus the regulations work rules and the dot and police on their case constantly. just to make a pay check. may god kep them safe, and their roads clear.

Semi's carry millions of loads a year. They burn less fuel than trains, are not as loud, and get loads quicker to customers than trains. Truckers are primary to the economy. Their job is lucrative as well as dangerous. Semi drivers are the life-line to all companies regardless of the country. I salute Canada for recognizing the importance of semi drivers.

Truck drivers, both men and women, are some of the nicest folks I've personally had the pleasure of meeting.

If you ate today, thank a truck driver because he brought the food to the grocery store or restaurant you bought it from. That's what's good about truck drivers.
