Without skipping ANY songs? I can't speak for you, but that's a rare thing for me.

bettie - woo-hoo on the DD! :)

And you bring up a good point...the "random" setting for CD players can sometimes freshen up a stale album.

You are right, that is a hard thing made even harder in the iPod era. Still, I gotta figure out of the thousand plus I own, there have to be some that could qualify.

NIN - The Downward Spiral
Garbage - Garbage
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Anything by Rob Zombie/White Zombie or Mindless Self Indulgence - yes, they are that good
AFI - The Art of Drowning
Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction
Prick - self-titled - This was one of several acts that got involved with Trent's Nothing label during the mid-90's

I take it you didn't like Manic Compression as much. I actually think that one was slightly better than Slip but both could qualify for this. I was listening to Delusional last night, what a great sound!

It does seem to be getting more and more rare, but there are a few. Off the top of my head I would say OK Computer (really the whole post Pablo Honey Radiohead collection, but mainly OK Computer). Top to bottom, great record that flows together as a record as a whole amazingly.

The Shins, Oh Inverted World also is wonderful. Great vibe, great tunes, really consistent. Not to mention that it flows like a mix tape with it's peaks and valleys. One of my favorite records in general. Man, those guys are good.

The Mars Volta's Francis the Mute kind of has to be listened to on a sitting because it all runs together, but it is very worth it. This is kind of a lesser choice because I have to be in the mood for it, but when I'm going on a long drive and I'm in that sort of a mood nothing fits it quite like that record.

Working backwards, probably my favorite one sitting kind of a record would probably be Abbey Road. I would feel hesitant to call anything perfect, but that record is pretty close. Really any Beatles record makes for a great complete listen.

I know this is more of a rock thing, but I would also throw Dr. Octogon's Dr. Octogonacologyst into the mix. I guess the very first track is kind of skipable, but it isn't really a song. That record is so good.

Also, for me anything Pavement or Stephen Malkmus, but I'm too much of a fan and in my opinion they can do no wrong (minus a couple b-sides)

Ah yes... That is the true test of a brilliant album. I think what you're getting at here is that there are many albums that are particularly good most of the way through, but don't quite rank as truly brilliant because there still remains those couple of songs that seem out of place.

For what it's worth, I would offer the following;

Travis - The Man Who
A truly consistent blend of melancholy and uplifting pop songs that seem to flow from start to finish perfectly.

Dandy Warhols - Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia
I'm sure this was conceived as a concept album, as most songs fade right in to the next. While most of their other offerings can be touch and go, 13 tales delivers solid tracks and almost a literal running narrative all the way through.

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, it's Morning
I think it's the (sometimes brutal) honesty of this album that endears it to me. While not every song is perfectly written, it's hard to reach for the skip button because you want to find out how they end.

Eels - Beautiful Freak
More melancholic than Travis, but at the same time strangely uplifting. Lead performer Mark ("E") Oliver Everett has what I like to call a 'home grown' sense to his writing. Anyone who writes music can appreciate that these songs are written by someone who was self taught. Whether this adds or detracts from the overall impact is debatable, but I see it as only a positive thing.

Hot Hot Heat - elevator
While this album actually came under criticism by fans for being too 'poppy' and not true to the style of their first album, I think it is that fact that gives this album it's edge. Yes, the songs are catchy, but that makes them even more enjoyable and addictive.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
A classic. It is tempting to mention Mellon Collie instead, but for me this album is more rewarding, because it still has the raw edge of their earlier, more distortion heavy albums while introducing the subtle edge and harmony that Corgan has become so known for.

Hmm... I have others, but for the time being those are the albums that stick out, and I don't want to risk boring people... =)

Yes. I probably seem like an old git here but the two M45 albums can be listened to continuously. Tom Waits 'Bone Machine'. The two earliest Creadence Clearwater Revival albums. And I could go on... and after a few drinks I do. The music is out there. Good luck

Yes, Neil Young's "Prairie Wind" is my favorite album and I never skip a song on it.

Every day when I run I listen to one entire album. When the music stops, that's my sign to head home. The top three I listen to are Ben Folds' "Rocking the Suburbs," Tom Petty's "Full Moon Fever," and the recent addition of Lily Allen's "Alright Still."

Also, I'd never skip a song on any Pink Floyd album. That's like blasphemy. For a lot of rock albums (not so much recently), the song order is intentional.

I have many albums that I can listen to from start to finish. There are some older albums that are made to be listened to from start to finish because they tell a story: Tommy & Quadrophenia by The Who, The Wall by Pink Floyd, Operation Mindcrime--Queensryche. Seems lately not a lot of artists pay attention to song placement on albums as so many people buy individual songs rather than whole albums.
