A spider will eat almost anything that gets caught in the web. It will first see if it can subdue the prey by rushing in, giving it a quick paralyzing bite and wrapping it in silk to keep it fresh.

If prey is to large or presents a danger to the spider, it will probably cut the webbing to free the lost dinner and then rebuild the damaged portion of the web.

If it's a ground based spider, they may flee if the prey presents a danger to them.

Yes. Pick up a wiggly one and toss it into the web. The spider will wrap it up for later. Spiders will eat any bug which wanders into their web.
