Wolverines lead the series 19-14-1. The two played frequently between 1887 and 1909, until Notre Dame finally won a game in the series and Michigan obviously didn't like playing a team that beat them. They met twice during WWII ('42 and '43), splitting the two, then started meeting annually in 1978, with breaks in '83 and '84, '95 and '96, and 2000 and 2001. Since the series has resumed in 1978, Notre Dame holds a 12-10-1 advantage.

Michigan is not one of Notre Dame's three permanent rivals. Those are Purdue, Navy, and Southern California.

Notre Dame has actually met Michigan State way more than Michigan. 70 times with ND leading the series 44-25-1. I think they play MSU the following week, September 15th at ND. Go Green!
