I started birth control about 4 months ago. The first month I was on the nuva ring and my vericose veins were sore, but not showing above the skin. I was only on the nuva ring for a month, then I switched to Yasmin and my vericose veins are going haywire! My white legs look like someone took a blue crayon a drew on them. I want to stay on birth control, but I need one that doesn't have as serious side effects! My dad died unexpectedly from a P.E. last year and I don't want to be another statistic. What birth control would be the safest with my DVT? Serious answers only please?

i am trying to figure the same thing out! those hormones are so dangerous. i took pill for a few months and i think a vein in my leg burst. had an ultrasound of my legs done and they didn't find any clots, but i have a vericose vein in my leg that had turned into a huge bruise right before my eyes with serious pain. i am in my 30's and smoke and with my family health history i should not take hormonal contraceptives. i got so scared and stopped taking them and still haven't found a method i am comfortable with. my partner and i do not like condoms, i am sensitive to spermicidal products. i am afraid of an iud. i also do NOT want to get pregant. i am planning to try the sponge again and hopefully will not have a bad reaction to it. but the stats are 1 in 10 get pregnant. so i am thinking of combining using the sponge with the Fertility Awareness Method, and abstaining completely during my most fertile times. the problem is having just recently stopped the pill, it is difficult to track right now until my body readjusts. There is also the female condom, but i didn't really like that either. why can't they make a pill that is safe! so frustrating!

Don't use any OCP.It is not recommended if there is any chance of DVT.The safest method of contraception is using a condom. But if any one of you are not comfortable with that, and if you already have a baby then consider using a third gen IUD.Though it has its own sideffect but these are generally mild and also it has nothing to do with varicose vein. What ever you choose always consult with your doctor.Good Luck.

condoms, maybe an UDI.

You don't seem to be tolerating hormones at all
