It should not be a national holiday, it was the day your government let you down. NORAD is trained to handle these situations and Cheney decided to not shoot down any of the four planes.
It was a day which showed you that the Muslim world hates America, maybe because its free or maybe because of all the oil stealing, wars and puppet governments they placed there for the last 50 years.
It was a day which 3000 innocent lives were murdered and revenge was never done.
It is a day full of doubts because the government does not provide its people answers.
It should not be a national holiday because your government has let you down with foreign policies, defense and then a proper explanation of why and how.

I don't believe it should be a national holiday any more than Pearl Harbor should be one. However, I do believe that we must never forget what happened and any method of keeping the story fresh in our minds is worth looking into. Some things we could do is broadcast the documentaries that came out a few weeks after the attack on every anniversary instead of hiding it away to not open old wounds. We need to reopen those wounds so we don't become lax and forget what is at stake if we stop fighting terrorism. If monuments, memorials, commemorations on anniversaries and documentories do that, then keep them coming.

I guess the first person to answer thinks only Republicans believe that the victims and heroes of 9/11 should be remembered.
Yes it should be on par with Pear Harbor Day.
The heroes of the day (firefighters, cops, rescue workers) should be honored along with the innocent victims. The heroes that continue to bring the fight to our enemies (our troops) should also be honored.
For anyone that is going to give this a thumbs down, remember WE WERE ATTACKED! The military should use every weapon in the American arsenal to wipe these murderers out wherever they are. If we don't kill them they will continue to try and murder more of our innocent civilians on American soil.

i think that it should be a national holiday, like memorial day. it should commemorate those who died on September 11th. I have 2 cousins that died in the twin towers, so i know what people are going through more than many.

A memorial to all the men and women in Government who let the USA down on that day, because of non existing security in airports and not taking threads serious. And to the 20% of the victims, professional firefighters, who lost their lives, because the efforts to save where bungled in an almost criminal neglect of communication issues. And to Bush, who has spread hate and death since then through the world.

I think it should be commemorated by randomly selecting a city in a Fundamentalist Islamic Theocracy and dropping a couple of daisy cutters on a couple of selected buildings every Sept. 11th. Just so they remember too.

More than 3 000 people are killed shootings every month in the US, I would like the government to legislate for gun control and work towards ending violence rather than reacting with violence.
